Lumens Bulb Standards

Unlike the competition, Lumens uses brand name components in all our conversion kit bulbs. These components ensure longer life and better stability in color in all our bulbs. Many companies choose to go with the less expensive generic bulbs. These generic bulbs tend to leak the Xenon gases out of the bulb and therefore shortens the life of these types of bulbs.

Lumens HID Conversion Kits

AMP Style Connectors - is currently the industry standard for HID Conversion kits. These connectors provide maximum electrical flow of AC power. More importantly, these connectors are waterproof and keep the connectors from coming apart. Because of the AC current generated by the ballast, should electricity 'leak' from the connectors to the vehicle, an arc of electricity would be created to the chassis of the vehicle (this is very dangerous, as there are fuel residues that may explode should the arc come in contact with it).

Original Philips UV-blocking Quartz Glass - provides more light on the road. Also, we choose to use this premium part because it has the highest level of resistance to vibrations, the highest level of resistance to extreme temperatures, and lowers the risk of explosion. The UV-blocking Quartz Glass filters ultraviolet rays that may damage modern plastic head light lenses (yellowing or foggy lenses).

Germany's Messer Xenon Gas - aka Elme Messer Gaas. The Xenon gas provided by the world's leading gas manufacturer is of the highest quality & consistency. Lumens not only injects Xenon gas into the round element that provides light, but also throughout the whole glass burner. The gas is compressed 6 - 8 times the atmospheric pressure throughout the glass. This provides the most stable conditions to protect the electrode, which in turn, prolonging the bulb's life. Another advantage of increased Xenon gas is increased Luminous flux (more light) and more stable color output.

Japanese PPS Base - a premium compound base (Polyphenylene Sulfide) which provides the best chemical resistance, high temperature resistance, flowability, dimensional stability and other electrical characteristics for HID bulbs.

Sylvania Electrode - with over 50 years of filament engineering and manufacturing experience, Sylvania is one of the leaders in producing electrodes

Mercury at 99.999% purity - allows for better flow of electricity and keeps the voltage stable through the bulb

Color Temperatures (K - Kelvins)

There is a general misconception that a higher K rating provides more light than a lower K rating with Xenon HID lights. The brightest light is actually at a pure white light without any additional colors. With Lumens Xenon HIDs, you would see pure white at 6000K. OE manufacturers choose a light at 4300K rather than 6000K. 4300K has a slight yellowish color (like the color halogen bulbs have). This is not the brightest color band for a clear night; 6000K would provide more visibility in this case. Unfortunately, pure white light does have its downfalls. Because of its intensity, white light (6000K) also refracts back at the driver the most when there are particles in the air (ie. rain, snow, and fog). A less refractive light would be more useful in these conditions; we find yellow (3000K) to be the most effective in these situations. For OE manufacturers, they try to give the medium which would be between the white and the yellow for overall driving conditions.

For HID conversions on vehicles for daily driving (especially vehicles with projectors), we recommend the colors between 4300K - 6000K. Any colors below or above this range will result in loss of light (amount of light lost will vary depending on the housing / projector). For fog light applications, we recommend 3000K for performance in rain, snow, and fog.Lumens HID Color Chart

Warning: Please use this color chart for reference only, as colors the users sees varies from monitor to monitor. Also, colors generated by the bulbs may appear differently inside different headlight housings / vehicles as the physical housings may influence the color / light amplification of the bulbs inside

Compatibility with other Brands

Lumens HID conversion bulbs are compatible with most HID conversion kits on the market. Compatible ballasts:

1. Produces AC power (not DC - a lot of inexpensive kits are powered by DC output ballasts)

2. Has 'AMP' connectors to feed AC current to our bulbs. Cutting and splicing the wires between ballasts and HID bulbs is dangerous and not recommended.
